My Phone Boots Slowly: Reducing Startup Applications on your Smartphone

Are you one of the many low-end smartphone users experiencing sluggish startup on phone?

Having a phone that takes too long to boot up is no doubt a frustrating experience, and can sometimes make a user think their phone has developed some sort of problem.

The classic culprit for any device booting up slowly is the too many processes and services that the operating system loads upon startup, as has been established with PC. There are however other variables that affect the startup duration of your phone; these may include

  • Bulkiness of the OS (operating system) or should I say ROM specifically
  • Processing speed of the device
  • Cache partition size (RAM)
  • and a few others I don't know

In the end, a device with too many startup apps will boot up slower than that with a few startup apps.

SOLUTION

To be able to boost the startup speed of your phone the following are the recommended steps to take;

METHOD 1

  1. Obtain SuperUser permission on your phone...Yes! You need  to Root your phone to be able to use this method. More on Rooting here...
  2. Install Advanced Permission Manager on your phone (check here... to find download link)
  3. Launch the application you just downloaded and choose 'search apps by permission'

  4. Select the 'automatically start at boot' menu and navigate through the apps
  5. Note the apps you wish to deny 'start at boot' permission, then go back to app home (beginning of the app)
  6. Now choose the 'All Apps' menu then navigate to the apps you have noted already (one by one)
  7. Check the 'automatically start at boot' box and click 'Remove & Re-install' (do the same for each and every application you noted).

  8. Try restarting your device to note any improvement
NOTE: This is a permanent action that can only be reversed by re-downloading the application you wish to re-include in the startup list.

METHOD 2

This is a simpler and easy method of reducing startup application, but also less forceful and can be easily reversed.

  1. Visit the app store from your phone and search for a 'Startup Manager' application
  2. Install and follow the instructions set by the app developer to get started
  3. If you have set everything correctly, your device should now boot up faster.
Try any of these for method 2
  • Startup Manager
  • Autorun Manager
  • Advanced Task manager

Samsung Galaxy S5 vs. Apple iPhone 5s: Spec Showdown

In what appears to be an unending rivalry between two tech giants,  Samsung and Apple continue their smartphone arms race. The Korean giant's new Galaxy S5 smartphone is poised to take on Cupertino's current champ, the  iphone 5s , as each company tries to leapfrog over the other semiannually. The Galaxy S5 doesn't look too different from the S4, but it sports a 2.5GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor, a significant bump up from the S4's 1.9GHz Snapdragon 600. The iPhone 5s's A7 processor is impressive, and we won't know whether the Galaxy S5 will beat it until we benchmark it. The iPhone 5s  generally
