Nokia finally unveiled its first series of Android based smartphones known as the X- series namely, Nokia X (Normandy); Nokia X+; Nokia XL.
Just on Monday, the Nokia line of smartphones got three (3) adopted ANDROID brothers, this announcement was made at the MWC 2014, alongside Samsung's new S5 phone and Sony's Xperia Z2. They have been greeted with many stakeholders' reviews. The three unveiled phones have been claimed to be below expectations as they only come with...
1. Non-HD displays (LCD)
2. Not-sufficient internal memory (4Gb)
3. Low RAM (512MB-756MB)
4. Poor camera resolution (3.15 MP, XL has 5MP)
5. Lack of secondary camera (except for XL with 2MP)
6. Small battery capacity (1500mAh, XL has 2000mAh)
7. Above all, a forked Android Os with a Windows-like UI (though running 4.1.2 Android Jellybean).

However, releasing these phones may be a turning point for Nokia's failing and ailing market as the unveiled phones targets the masses (reviews claim India as target market), newcomers into
the smartphone world and a lot of Nokia lovers (like myself) who can now use one of these phones as a substitute to their other High-end, Android-powered devices.
The Nokia X is going to be shipped early March at €89 (roughly 20,000 naira) and the other Two, start of 2nd Quarter (May) at about €99 (23,000 naira) .
Talking about one of the shortcomings claimed by reviewers, the move by Nokia to 'sideline' the Google play store, remove the stock Google apps like Gmail, Hangout...and replace with Microsoft apps, should not have been a surprise as Nokia and Microsoft are in a close deal which may even see Nokia being run by Microsoft soon. It will only require lovers of Google apps to go the extra mile of side-loading their favourite apps on to their new device.
I am of the opinion that the new smart-phones released by Nokia have come to stay and will force their way into the hearts of Android lovers over time. NOKIA and Microsoft should only work to improve the alternative services to those Google provide and it should be a smooth ride from there.
What's your opinion of the phones, do you agree with me that The Nokia Android phones are here for good or you think they are a failure on the part of Nokia? Leave a comment let's share views....
This is without doubt a late move by Nokia, it should have come before the Chinese Companies like Tecno, took over smartphone market in developing countries... I'd say "Better late than never"
ReplyDeletei think its a smart move by nokia after selling the Lumia brand to Microsoft
